Peter Black

As Director of Purchasing for Thunderbird, Peter Black draws on a unique skillset honed over an extensive career. He has comprehensive experience dealing with vendors, product line transfers, facility relocations, consolidations, expansions, and management information system integration.

Peter wields all those skills at Thunderbird, where he is responsible for finding synergies between facilities, controlling costs and reducing costs by leveraging overall spend, managing vendors, and creating corporate purchasing policies. He owns a strong work ethic, competitive spirit, and a commitment to customer satisfaction and corporate success.

Before joining Thunderbird, Peter was senior manager of purchasing and supply chain at Philips Lighting in Franklin Park, Ill. Peter was responsible for a $23 million inventory, vendor management, and sourcing while incorporating global Philips initiatives at the regional level and ensuring corporate alignment. Among his accomplishments, Peter created a supplier partnership program that reduced cost 8%, reduced supplier base by 10%, increased payable terms to an average of Net 45 days, and reduced lead times. He also developed projects at the regional level that had the potential to scale at the global level and drove operational excellence through process improvements.

Peter’s success stems from his vision, leadership, and expertise in purchasing, sourcing, supply chain management, operations, organizational development, project management, safety programs, and creative problem-solving. He also has a proven track record of implementing lean initiatives, developing environmentally conscious programs, and maximizing employee involvement to improve efficiencies and increase earnings.

From 1977 to 1980, Peter studied at Ohio Wesleyan University.
